The Cold War wasn't an actual war. It was the relationship that developed after the end of World War 2 between the US and USSR. Each country was afraid that the other would become known as the main world power and so the two countries decided to force each other back down. During the Cold War there were many close calls to actual warfare, such as the Cuban Missile Crisis.
